Totara 2’s Camp to Mistletoe Bay

We are back from our week long camp to Mistletoe Bay! We had the best time fishing, swimming, paddle boarding, orienteering and even movie watching and trying our hand at archery! Keep an eye on our blogs for some writing and photos in the next few days!

Camp Food Prep

Totara 2 are getting really excited for our camp next week. We are off to Mistletoe Bay in the Marlborough Sounds for a whole week. For our first night's dinner we are making the mince for our spag bol and rhubarb and apple crumble. We are going to freeze this so it's all ready to eat on Monday night. We can't wait! 

  

School Kit - Get Writing

Ruby, Corianna, Iris and Mia have put together our School Kit - Get Writing cards. We are getting ready to send them to Northpark School in Auckland. We had to write Metaphors about ourselves to describe who we are to people that we have never met. Some of us found it quite easy, while some of us found it a bit challenging. We are really looking forward to receiving our writing from our buddy school. It would be really cool if they could see our blog too!

3D Printing

We are so lucky to have a 3D printer in our school and Eric from Tech Space came in and showed us how it works. We had a play with the programme Tinkercad and used our chromebooks to design new boats around our novel Kensuke's Kingdom. We also got to see our Totara 2 name plate being printed. Thanks for coming in Eric, we are looking forward to using our 3D printer in our learning!

Welcome to 2018

Kia Ora and welcome to 2018. We are so excited to be in Totara 2. We are a class of 34 Yr 7/8 students who are enthusiastic in our learning. Please feel free to comment on our blog posts, we love getting comments!

Ice Skating

On Thursday Totara 2 got to go ice skating at the inflatable ice skating rink that came to town. We all had fun but found it really challenging! Unfortunately poor Jessie fell over and fractured not one but TWO of her wrists. We hope you are feeling better soon Jessie!!

Shantytown Visit

This week Totara 2 and 3 went to Shantytown. We studied the law of the Goldrush and what life was like in the 1800's.
We learnt about why settlers came to the West Coast and what the conditions they lived in were like. We also went on the steam train and got robbed at gun point. We had to describe who robbed us to the Police Officer and see if we could find the suspect and get him locked up in jail. Lastly we had a court case where Paris was accused of stealing a pocket watch when she was wiping the tables down in the saloon. Maya was her lawyer and had to convince the judge and the jury that she was innocent. Unfortunately, Jimmy was a far too good prosecutor and the jury found Paris guilty and she was charged with stealing and sent to prison for 6 months! We had a great day!
