Exposition Writing
Over the last few weeks of term 2 and this week we have been working on exposition writing. This is a chance for us to argue our point of view and use facts and opinions to back up our topic sentences. We were given the opportunity to work collaboratively with others in our class to create an argument on whether we think cellphones should be banned at school or not. Check out Iris, Mia, Reagan and Arielle's piece of writing. The girls have used some great topic sentences as well as facts to back up their opinions to create a very successful piece of argument writing. Ka Pai girls!

Science Fair
This morning T2 had the opportunity to visit Grey High to look at the Year 9 and 10 science fair. We really enjoyed looking at the different experiments, particularly the ones that involved bacteria and food! This was a great transition for the Year 8's who are attending Grey High next year.

Take the Cake
In T2 we have many kind people who go above and beyond all of the time. It is really nice when these acts of kindness are recognised by others.
Today in assembly, Kyra was recognised for her act of kindness by lending her production script to Katelynn when Katelynn's broke.
Kyra you are always a kind, considerate and thoughtful member of our class and it is great that you have been recognised for this. Ka Pai, we are all so proud of you!

Matariki Planting
Today we had Eli come in and talk to us about Matariki and why it is important to begin planting seeds now for the new year. We teamed up with P3 and were their Tuakana. We planted seeds, weeded the glasshouses and the gardens surrounding the glasshouses. We are looking forward to seeing the seeds grow. A big thank you to Eli for coming in and helping us.

Interpreting Timetables
Over the past 2 weeks during Maths time, we have been learning how to read and interpret timetables. We think that this is a great life skill to have as we need to be able to work out timetables when we use public transport around the world.
As part of our maths mahi, we had to complete an interpreting timetables workbook. Once these are completed, we have to embed them onto our blogs. Here is Reagan's mahi. She has interpreted these timetables exceptionally well! Ka Pai Reagan!

See Ya Simon Novel Study
Kia Ora everyone. For the past 6 weeks, T2 has been reading See Ya Simon as part of a novel study. We have been reading it as a whole class and have had a range of comprehension activities to complete, based on the novel. One of the activities we had to complete was a character profile. We had to choose 3 characters that we had been introduced to in the novel and create a profile on them so people who haven't read the novel, know a little bit about them. We also had to create avatars of what we thought the character might look like. Here is an example of some fantastic character descriptions completed by Mia. Wananei Mia!

ANZAC Walk
Today T1 and T2 finished off this weeks ANZAC work with a walk down to the cenotaph, the RSA and the old Grey Main memorial gates at Dixon Park. At the cenotaph we looked at the names of all the soldiers who never returned from WW1 and the names of the places that the battles took place in. At the RSA we met John who showed us all the war memorabilia that the RSA had collected, including the guns that were used in WW1 and the medals that the soldiers were give. At the gates of Dixon Park, we hung the poems that we have written on the backs of poppies and Katelynn, Kyra, Reagan, Megan and Harvey read their poems as a mark of respect and remembrance. Some of our class also went across the road to the old people's home and delivered the ANZAC biscuits that we made this week. We all really enjoyed taking some time to remember those who fought for our freedom so many years ago.
