BRYCE'S WAR STORY
1914 4th AugustDear DiaryI am on the boat to Gallipoli. I am the furthest from the door. We are about 1 day of shore. I am surrounded by men who have been to war before. This scares me.1914 5th AugustDear DiaryWe are 1 hour off shore I am in my gear; we faced rough sea last night 1 boat nearly sank. I didn’t even know if we were going to make it. I hope I will get another entry tomorrow but for now bye.1914 6th AugustDear DiaryThis was the worst day ever. We were on the boat when we arrived. My friend died off the side of the boat he drowned. I saw the face of the Turks my friends dying around me. It was horrible.1914 7th AugustThis is my last diary entry I will never fight in another war. I consider myself lucky to live.

Today
I have become General for the New Zealand Army. I’m going to have a meeting
with the other generals. I’ve met a general named Joshua McAthur. He’s nice to
me because the troops are treating me like poo for the last 5 hours because I
have become General.
The
air sinks because of the body’s that lay there.
I’ve
been attacked by a Nazi. Luckily I had pistol.
I wounded him in the leg and the arm. Blood poured out. I felt safe when
I shot but I also felt sad as well.
I’m
missing the family lots and lots. Tell Tristan and Byron I’m sorry for telling
them I’ll be home by Christmas Eve.

World War One
This week marked 100 years since the declaration of World War One. In Room 17 we have been discussing the implications of war and how we would feel if we were part of the war. We then wrote either letters or diary entries from the point of either a child, soldier or other family members.
Here is Latasha's writing:
Here is Latasha's writing:
I race to my letterbox careful to not be seen by a soldier. I
tear open the lid and grab the mail. The lid slams shut and I race back inside
the heavy door slams shut behind me I shuffle through the mail and spot one
with my name on it. I rip open the envelope and start reading….
Dear Angel,
I know it eight days away from your birthday and I was hoping
to be there. But sadly im stuck fighting for our country. I miss you and mum
both. I don’t know when or if I’ll ever come home but I have faith that I will.
I miss you, stay safe.
Love Dad
Dear Dad,
I don’t mind that you’re not here for my birthday. I just
want you home. Mum and I are doing ok. I worry that every day when I get the
mail I will see something yellow sticking out. I know you will come home one
day and even if you don’t please know you will always have a place in my heart.
Love Angel
